Collective identity is integral to maintaining the longevity of a social movement. Through an analysis of feminist blogging networks as a counter public, I consider the role that creative feminists play in the formation of the contemporary feminist movement. Acts of self-expression constitute identity negotiations, which in turn assist feminist activists in understanding the goals, aspirations, and concerns of the feminist movement as a whole. Using a series of interviews and in-depth observation of feminist bloggers on Tumblr, I argue that creative self-expression, often performed through discursive activism, contributes to the formation of a feminist collective identity.
